Asfari

Asfari is one of two yellow apples we are working to establish properly here on the farm.
Growing them isn't really the difficult part. The trees crop well and the apples develop beautifully. The real challenge begins on the day they have to come off the tree.
Because yellow apples show everything.
One small knock, slightly rough handling during harvest or an unfortunate bump along the way, and the mark quickly becomes visible on that pale yellow skin. The same minor bruise might almost disappear on a red apple, while Asfari seems determined to put a circle around it for everyone to see.
So this is an apple that needs to be handled with velvet gloves – almost literally.
Manage that, however, and the reward is an absolutely extraordinary apple.
Asfari arrived on our farm in 2019 and very quickly earned a place in Morellmannen's top three apples. Its exact position may depend slightly on the mood of the day, but it is always somewhere near the top.
The flavour is fantastic, the texture crisp and juicy, and when the fruit develops perfectly, that clean yellow colour is striking in its own right. At its best, Asfari almost seems to be playing in a league of its own.
And apparently it isn't only the grower who thinks so. People tasting Asfari for the first time tend to adopt much the same opinion remarkably quickly.
The variety was developed in Belgium in the late 1990s and became established in Norwegian production around 2015. Asfari also has an important role as one of the few yellow apples suitable for our commercial packing and distribution system.
But only if we treat it accordingly.
Fantastic apples. Just don't drop them. :D
