Pears
Celina (QTee)
Without question, this is Morellmannen's favourite pear.
Celina is the red-blushed pear that everyone seems to talk about – and once you taste one at exactly the right stage of ripeness, it is not particularly difficult to understand why.
Developed through Norwegian-Swedish breeding work in the late 1990s, Celina has gone from being a newcomer to becoming an important pear far beyond Scandinavia in a remarkably short time. Internationally, you will usually find it marketed under the QTee brand. We suspect someone, somewhere decided that Celina wasn't quite international enough – fortunately, the pear itself remained unchanged. :D
Celina is a slightly unusual pear. Its compact shape and beautiful red blush make it stand out before you have even tasted it. Among more traditional pears, it practically shines at you.
But the real fun begins when you take the first bite.
Juicy, sweet and aromatic, with a wonderful texture and a flavour that, in our opinion, puts Celina firmly in the world-class category. This is one of those pears capable of making someone stop after the first bite and realise that a pear can be considerably more than just... a pear.
The trees are highly productive and deliver reliable crops year after year, although some thinning is usually needed to allow the remaining fruit to develop to its full potential.
Celina is still young compared with the truly old pear varieties.
