Sweet cherries

Areko

Season / ripening: End of July and 14 days to go

Areko arrived on our farm in 2023 and, to put it mildly, we haven't regretted that decision for a second.

This is an exceptionally productive variety with impressive flavour and texture. In our opinion, Areko belongs right at the top of just how good a sweet cherry can be – both for the grower and, more importantly, for the person who gets to eat it.

The cherries are large and almost perfectly heart-shaped, with a unique balance of sweetness and acidity that we have yet to find in any other variety. The flavour is somewhat different from what you might expect from a classic sweet cherry – but it is extraordinarily good.

Areko is a German variety, bred from Kordia and Regina – two world-famous sweet cherry varieties. In other words, it had a pretty impressive family tree to begin with. The result certainly doesn't disappoint.

- Large fruit
- Exceptionally crisp
- An unusual cherry flavour – but incredibly good
- Enormous yields, with no thinning required
- One of our customers' top three favourites
